Early on in the book, I couldn't believe this was from the same author as the Dresden Files. The characters are so much shallower, the dialogue so much less witty, the writing much more stilted. It got better as the book progressed, and there were various scenes where Butcher's creativity and talent shined through, but fans of the Dresden Files are in for a disappointment. I'll probably keep reading the series because I hear it improves in the later books, but for folks who aren't genre-obsessed like I am, I can't say I'd recommend this one.
