Atonement is very inventive, clever, and original, but I didn't really enjoy reading it. I think Ian McEwan is brilliant but the book depressed me and I prefer books that are a little "lighter" and not so gloomy.
Decent third novel from Jennifer Weiner.
I went to a Samuel Delany reading in college. He's like the gay sci-fi Santa! GREAT reading voice.
So your boss is a controlling bitch with irrational demands and a sense of entitlement that your pandering ways only fosters. Boo-hoo! Just quit! And just for the record, when a character has the luxury of beginning a freelance writing career because they made $30k off selling swag from the heinous job with the uber-bitch... not cool.
Although there were times when I thought the book delved right into "stupid dialog", and though I objected to the book making Buttercup appear beautiful, but stupid ... I did enjoy the story as one of the best of all time. Of course I have long loved the movie, with the screenplay written by the book's author, and so the story was already a favorite.
