I got this book from the library as a teenager and the story just about broke my heart. For years I remembered one line from the Outsider because it affected me so much. As an adult I tracked the book down again so that I could have it on my shelves, because for me the Outsider makes it a keeper.
Wow - Krakauer is quite the writer. I may not like it, but it's very interesting, and he (effectively) relies on emotional responses. If this book was the first I'd heard of the LDS church, I'm afraid I would have swallowed every word! And I'd be creeped out too. I think that's the aim. Good thing I know better than that.
The story of Ronan the Raven. His family has a curse on them. So Ronan has already had two brides die on him. However, when his family gets him a new bride he is afraid to love her or be with her. Gelis has the sight and has seen that she belongs to Ronan. She has to make him believe that the curse can be broken.
Jane Austen was not a detective in real life, but it does make for an interesting what-if? Good mystery and recommended for lovers of Jane and her period.
