Irmak Balku Balku itibaren Chézy-en-Orxois, Fransa
I didn't actually manage to finish this book. It's one of only 2 that I've quit in the last 12 months. I made it to page 119 before deciding that it just wasn't for me. I found the story hard to follow as it kept jumping backwards and forwards between different years. I also found Hilary Mantel's style of writing difficult to get on with, as I was often unsure which character she was referring to and who was talking. Some of her speech was in quotation marks and other parts of speech just blended into her normal prose. I also think that you needed to have quite a good knowledge of Tudor history to appreciate this book and follow the story. Some of my GCSE knowledge started to come back to me, but not enough to make this an easy or enjoyable read. I know that this book has enjoyed rave reviews and i was really looking forward to reading it, but it just wasn't for me. I have decided that after 119 pages there are much more enjoyable books out there that I could be reading in 2012!
