Brain-dead action, but the fast-paced, punchy, reasonably well-written kind. A nice change of pace from a lot of the more "heavy," involved stuff I normally read.
I do love regency-era novels, and this one had engaging characters and an interesting back-story. Unfortunately, the soft porn dropped this from likable to avoidable.
Read this one the first time I moved to New York and it sparked my interest in shady urban histories. Now that I know a lot more about the city and the context of the time frame, I wanted to read it again. Fun, even if sensationalistic.
