This "rest of the story" Cinderella fairy tale was a fun take on an old story. The book begins with Ella in the castle, already betrothed to Prince Charming. (Opening line - "The fire had gone out, and I didn't know what to do.") Later, the story flashes back to the ball where Cinders Ella first met the prince and how she came to be living in such dire circumstances with her step family. Even though the story is still set in olden days, this is definitely a more modern take on it.
This a realistic romance story from the point of view of John Tyree, who painstakingly describes and analyzes his summer fling with innocent good-girl, Savannah. There is a subplot about autism that I found to be much more interesting and to which I was more emotionally invested, maybe because I was never able to fully believe in the depth of John and Savannah's relationship. However, I do see the appeal for YA readers of romance novels.
i was really surprised when my friend recommended this book because she doesn't strike one as the type to be into reading about deep sea diving. after reading it, i totally understand, because now my dream in life is to be a deep sea diver, and i've never even been snorkling.
