Tanith Lee always entertains me. This usually surprises me. I have no idea why. This book is exactly what I would have loved reading in elementary school. Exciting, funny, dangerous, a girl bold, daring, brave, defiant, and ultimatey successful. Not to mention, getting a gorgeous boy to fall in love with her. And PIRATES!!!!
I plan to read this one for ENG 619 Book Club. I just received this book in the mail from amazon.com. I was totally surprised at its poetry format! Amazing to say the least! I know that I will enjoy it immensely!
Although in the end I mostly enjoyed this read, as usual I found believability issues with this book. I never want- or really believe- that Jane is as clueless as she is. It's hard for me to imagine, for instance, that she would marry someone she didn't love to get money. I would think as the sleuth that she is that she would read people better, but she doesn't...not Chess and not her lovers/ex-lovers/potential lovers. As a Twin Citian, I do like that her book has familiar places.
