Autobiographical young adult novel by a Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Indian who's an award-winning poet, playwright, and novelist. "Part-time" refers to the fact that he chose to attend an all-white high school so he could get a better education. Un-self-pitying story of growing up poor, among alcoholics, with substantial physical disabilities, and as the target of bullies. But our hero also becomes a whiz kid and a star basketball player, and he comments repeatedly about the support he finds in his tight-knit Indian community. Doesn't hurt that this book is hilariously funny in many places.
Really enjoyed this book and I wish I had been able to talk about it with someone along the way- there was so much to discuss.
